Support Staff - Accounting Technician
My hours of work are 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
My background is Office Administration, Computer Financial Accounting Technician and Business. I also have a background in Library Sciences having worked in both the public and school libraries for more than 10 years.
Originally from Saskatchewan, upon our move to Alberta I worked in the oil and gas industry, which eventually led me back to my passion of working with students. I have worked with Red Deer Public Schools for over 17 years in the area of Office Support Staff/Clerical. I had the opportunity to work with some great staff at Lindsay Thurber , Central Middle School and North Cottage High School.
Today, I am very proud to be part of the Alternative Programs team. I have been with the program working with At Risk Youth since 2006. Over the past 12 years I was at North Cottage High School as Office Manager/ Head Secretary. I had the opportunity to work with some great staff who have a great passion for teaching and students, who let me lead and teach. In this position I ensured that all financial records of the school, demographic information, course completions and marks were submitted to Alberta Education for all students. During this time I had the great opportunity to work closely with students to earn credits for finance, foods, volunteerism, and sewing. I was able to assist students with creating resumes, job searches, interview preparation and planning for post secondary. I had the opportunity to create community partnerships with Loaves & Fishes while creating and coordinating the School breakfast and lunch program working with Breakfast for Learning as well as with Breakfast Clubs of Canada. I created school partnerships with several local grocery stores and specialty food stores in order to provide the lunches and breakfast .
The best part of my days are when a student realizes their potential and I get to see the smile on their faces as they complete something and accomplish a goal no matter how big or small.
In early 2018, I challenged myself and made the move to the Alternative school Centre as Financial Secretary/Accounting Technician where I am now. Here I will answer to the best of my knowledge any financial question you may have.
I love to be part of the community around me. Organizing, planning and assisting with Block Parties and fundraisers. I love to volunteer with organizations that are near and dear to my family and friends. These include Meals on Wheels, Terry Fox Run, Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
I am married and I love spending time with my husband. Together we own and operate a small video and arcade vending business. We have two beautiful daughters, two great son in laws and four wonderful grandchildren. Camping, family travel and reunions are very important to all of us.
I am always busy, I love travel, camping, hiking, reading and scrapbooking. Meeting people and experiencing the world of travel is my deepest passion. There are so many places to see. I am always looking for the next adventure whether it be near or far.
