Q: Where is graduation held?
A: Our graduation ceremony is held at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Red Deer South. They generously support our graduation ceremony by reducing costs so that we can provide our graduates a free ticket.
Q: What kind of ceremony do you have?
A: Our graduation ceremony is very different from those at other schools. We serve a buffet dinner for yourself and your guests, followed by a short ceremony.
Q: What do I wear?
A: We do not have a required dress for graduation. Many graduates choose to wear a formal gown or suit, while others choose to wear new jeans and shirt. Our graduates have access to the Cinderella project which provides disadvantaged graduates access to formal wear; please let us know if this is something you would like us to arrange.
Q: How many guests can I bring?
A: Typically, you may invite up to 7 guests. While you, the graduate, are free, there will be a $40 cost for each guest. There is no charge for children under 3 years of age. Graduates with young children at their tables will be seated near the door for your convenience.
Q: What’s for supper?
A: A selection of salads and entrees followed by a delicious dessert with fruit. Coffee, tea, juice and pop are included. Please let us know of any dietary restrictions.
Q: Can we have a celebratory drink?
A: All school sponsored events are non-alcoholic by RDPSD policy.
Q: What if I don’t pass all of my courses?
A: If you do not pass all of the required credits for graduation you will NOT receive an official High School Diploma or Certificate of Completion from Alberta Education. You will not graduate from high school until you make up these courses. Attending a graduation ceremony does not mean that you have graduated. If you are no longer in position to graduate when the list is finalized you will be invited to celebrate in June 2021.
Q: Where can I get grad photos taken?
A: You have two options. Lifetouch Canada comes to ASC on March 23-24, 2020. You can book your session at this link. There is a $40 sitting fee that is payable at your session that include formals, casual, and a group photo from the graduation ceremony. A cap and gown photo can be taken without paying a fee. You are not obligated to order prints. You can also choose to have photos taken with the photographer of your choice. Your photo will appear in the Red Deer Advocate special graduation insert in late June.
Q: Is there anything else I need to provide?
A: For our graduation night presentation, we require a photo of each graduate from their early elementary years (grades K-3) in either print or digital form to Addie Otto (firstname.lastname@example.org) approximately three weeks before graduation. Also, each graduate must complete this questionnaire. We reserve the right to snoop your facebook page and/or make things up if you don't!
